Executive Director

The Executive Director provides leadership for the operations and activities of a national, not-for-profit education association comprised primarily of university career services professionals and school system human resources administrators. The Executive Director collaborates with the Board of Directors, Strategic Marketing Manager, and Administrative Assistant in promoting the organization and its membership, developing collaborations, preparing services and resources, and serving as the spokesperson for the organization.

The Executive Director provides strategic direction for day-to-day operations, long-term projects and national initiatives. He/she serves and leads as an ex-officio member of each committee (such as supervising the Strategic Marketing Manager).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Human Resources, Organizational Administration or a related field.
  • Knowledge of and experience in K-12 and post-secondary educational organizations, recruiting, and hiring practices, and current educational reform initiatives and its impact on constituent groups.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a higher education leadership position or school district leadership position, experience in Human Resources in these industries and/or business background is highly desirable.
  • Preferred experience in management, including: membership services, public relations and marketing activities, conference planning, human resources, and budgeting development or other related areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders to include staff, Board members, membership, affiliates and vendors.
  • Current knowledge, skills, and demonstrated ability to utilize a cross-section of office technology to maximize organizational efficiency and productivity.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to non-profit and/or business planning.
  • Engagement in the areas of education, mission/vision and organizational goals orientation, and self-directed.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership and Management

  • Provide leadership for handling day-to-day budgetary issues with the Membership Services and Communication Coordinator, as well as coordinating fiscal information for the Board Treasurer.
  • Serves as AAEE liaison with association’s accountant, attorney, insurance agent, and federal/state agencies to establish compliance and appropriate operations.
  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence by providing strategic and purposeful leadership for programs and services, e.g. Supply and Demand Survey, Job Search Handbook for Educators, and webinars.
  • Recommends timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals.
  • Actively engages committees, affiliates, education partners and membership.
  • Develops effective systems to track progress and regularly evaluate association and individual programs/services to measure outcomes and communicate these outcomes to Board members and other constituents.
  • Oversees the governance of the association and its elections with designated Board member.
  • Provides annual budget proposal for Board approval.
  • Forecasts expenditures for travel and the fiscal year in advance for Board approval via Board procedures.

Communications and Membership:

  • Develops a strategic plan for the development of and membership of association within K-12, post-secondary education, and broader education marketplace. Collaborates with Strategic Marketing Manager and Board members, particularly Directors of Membership, to coherently strengthen and streamline all aspects of communications, e.g. social media, website, and email.
  • Strengthens and streamlines internal communication with membership to build awareness of membership benefits.
  • Strategically identifies and develops volunteers and leaders within the association, along with generating new membership from various constituent groups.
  • Sets and achieves strategic goals around building relationships with external partners to enhance visibility, brand and revenue-generating opportunities.

Annual Conference and Career Fair

  • In collaboration with President-elect and conference chair, serve as conference organizer; provides logistical support from national office (along with Strategic Marketing Manager) for all aspects of planning and implementing the annual conference and career fair. Reviews hotel and site contracts, logistics and catering for Board recommendation.

Strategic Planning

  • Annually reviews and presents the association’s plans for developing a national presence and for the growth of the organization to the Board.
  • Increases revenue by building more sponsorship opportunities for members and non-members.

$50,000 - $60,000
