Educator Effectiveness from Pipeline to Practice: The Role of Teacher Leadership

Wednesday, August 15, 2018 @ 3PM EDT

The single most important school based factor in a child’s education is the quality of the classroom teacher.

This session will walk participants through steps that both district and university leaders can take to establish effective learning teams and strong instructional coaching for every phase of a teacher’s career. Session attendees will leave with an understanding of the power of formal teacher leadership and action steps for improving their own teacher leadership structures.

Key Takeaways

  • Clearly defined teacher leader roles can be transformative in improving teacher practice and student outcomes
  • Strong professional learning structures, protocols, tools, and processes as well as follow up in the classroom are critical for teacher leaders to improve classroom instruction
  • Strong partnerships between districts and university teacher preparation programs can create a seamless pipeline of teachers prepared to engage in and lead the collaborative processes necessary to move instructional practices in schools.
