About the Webinar:

We will consider how each of the six policy responses discussed in the can support a state in tackling shortages, and review the research highlighting the potential effectiveness. Further, we will explore current state efforts to implement these policy responses, and consider the example of Washington state where policymakers have undertaken a comprehensive response to persistent shortages across the state.

Three Takeaways:

  • There are evidence-based responses to addressing teacher shortages that will help build a strong, sustainable, and diverse teacher workforce.
  • Solutions to teacher shortages should be targeted to the specific needs of states and districts and should consider the entire teacher career continuum with the goal of supporting improved preparation, early career mentoring, and long-term teacher retention.
  • States across the country have implemented these evidence-based policies and Washington state, in particular, has undertaken a comprehensive approach that employs strategies across the continuum to solve their teacher shortages.
