School Systems: “Student Loan Solutions: Helping you recruit and retain employees”

Presented by Jim Yale and Jon Bernardy of Horace Mann
Originally aired, Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at 2pm ET

Educators face multiple challenges to their financial well-being.  One is the challenge of repaying student loan debt.  This session focuses on how school districts can attract and retain employees by helping them: (1) remove debt through connecting with federal government loan forgiveness programs, (2) learn to make payments more manageable through available loan repayment options, and (3) plan to redirect their savings to achieve their financial goal, relieve stress and have a better focus on work. It will also discuss how delivery of a financial education program can help differentiate your district when recruiting and retaining employees.

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will:

  1. have new ideas on how to educate their employees about managing student load debt, and
  2. understand how educating employees on available federal programs and strategies can differentiate the district when recruiting employees and improve employee retention.

About the Presenters

Jim Yale serves as Vice President, Association Relations, for The Horace Mann Companies. In his role, Jim leads the company's overall efforts to work with employers on worksite programs designed to improve employee financial wellness, including workshops on State Retirement System benefits, Section 125 Services, Retirement Readiness, using DonorsChoose.org to fund out-of-pocket classroom expenses, plus other topics.  He manages the services provided through Horace Mann's partnerships with over 80 state and national educational associations.

Jon Bernardy serves as Director, Student Loan Solutions, for The Horace Mann Companies. In this role, Jon leads the company's efforts to provide education and solutions designed to help educational employees manage student loan debt.  In addition to leading the provision of educational workshops by Horace Mann representatives, He has presented at multiple local, state and national association conferences, focusing on showing employees ways to find savings and redirect those savings to their own financial wellness.  Plus, he manages the company's department of loan experts, who explain loan forgiveness programs and refinancing options, helping employees identify which programs they are eligible-for and how they can qualify for them.

Horace Mann was founded in 1945 by two Springfield, Illinois, teachers who saw a need for quality, affordable auto insurance for teachers. Since then, we’ve broadened our mission to helping all educators protect what they have today and prepare for a successful tomorrow.  And with our broadened mission has come corporate growth:  We serve more than 4,100 school districts nationwide, we’re publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange (symbol: HMN) and we have nearly $10 billion in assets.

We’re motivated by the fact that educators take care of our children’s future, and we believe they deserve someone to look after theirs.  We help educators identify their financial goals and develop plans to achieve them.  This includes insurance to protect what they have today and financial products to help them prepare for their future. Our tailored offerings include special rates and benefits for educators.
