Descriptions of the AAEE Awards

Priscilla A. Scotlan Award for Distinguished Service honors an AAEE member who has made significant contributions to our national association over a period of years. Priscilla Scotlan was a leader in the field of career planning and placement, having served as president of the AAEE, University of San Francisco Trustee, and Director of the Career Center at the University of California at Berkeley. AAEE’s equivalent to a “lifetime achievement award”, this designation recognizes extraordinary dedication and service to the Association. (Any member may nominate a colleague for this annual award, which is announced at the annual conference. Recipient’s employing institution must be a current, paid member of AAEE.)

The Marshall Award honors an individual or an organization for exceptional contributions to AAEE, especially in the areas of governance and management of the association. The award is named for Charlie Marshall who is the Executive Director Emeritus of AAEE, having served in that capacity from 1986-1999. (The recipient is nominated by the BOD, the Executive Director, or by Charlie himself. The recipient is then approved by the current BOD.)

The Innovative Programs/Practices Award honors individuals for developing new programs or professional practices involving educator preparation, recruitment, and/or retention. The award’s objectives are to encourage innovative ideas and then to share them within the profession. (Nominees must be members of AAEE, and nominations must be submitted by the office which originated the program or practice. This award is presented to members for programs which are valuable and commendable within the profession of educational staffing.)

 

The AAEE Star Award provides timely recognition of an individual or organization that has provided exemplary service to our organization. AAEE Stars are awarded at various times throughout the year. (Any member may nominate a colleague for this recognition, which may be awarded at various times throughout the year. Recipient must be a current, paid member of AAEE.)

The Research/Publications Award honors individuals for outstanding efforts in research and/or publications. (Any member may submit a nomination for this award, which is open to both members and non-members of AAEE. Individuals are welcome and encouraged to nominate their own work for recognition. It is awarded by the AAEE Board for contribution to AAEE publications or relevant research projects deemed valuable and commendable within the profession of educational staffing.)

The Outstanding Contributions Award honors one college career center professional and one school system human resources professional annually for outstanding contributions and service to AAEE. (Any member may nominate a colleague for this annual award, which is announced at the annual conference. Recipient’s employing institution must be a current, paid member of AAEE.)

 

Emeritus Membership Award honors AAEE members who have retired from educational career services or school human resources administration. Nominees must have given meritorious service to and be recognized as professional contributors to the professional activities of AAEE, as well as to state and regional educational career services or human resources organizations. Individuals are welcome and encouraged to nominate themselves for this award. Nominees must meet at least four of the following six criteria: 

✓ Membership in AAEE for a minimum of 10 years.

✓ Service as an officer of AAEE.

✓ Service as an officer of an AAEE-related state or regional association.

✓ Service as an officer of a state, regional or national educator’s association.

✓ Leadership in AAEE activities (e.g., conference planning, chairing/serving on committees, developing publications, leading task forces).

✓ Leadership in research or professional growth projects, or authorship of articles for AAEE publications.
